Kevin first contacted me to see if I could suggest any modifications to improve his wheelchair. When I arrived it was clear to me that Kevin’s wheelchair was not at all suitable for his needs. I asked Kevin why he wasn’t applying for a new wheelchair and he said “I have. They took 18 months to tell me I couldn’t have one.” Kevin was so disheartened that he didn’t want to put himself through the emotional strain of equipment applications again. We discussed his goals and what was preventing him from living the life he would like to and I was able to identify that, in addition to a new wheelchair, Kevin needed a modified vehicle for transport, an adjustable bed for comfortable transitions and a high powered supportive recliner so that he could manage his pain levels when relaxing at home. Kevin was understandably nervous to apply for new equipment, but I explained the process and the detailed reports I could provide to support his application and he agreed to try. Within three months Kevin’s application was approved and we were able to take the next step – ordering his new equipment and setting it up for the best use.

“Larissa was very professional and is a very caring person. I would not be able to do all the things I can do now without her help. She took the time to really understand what was holding me back and she suggested equipment that I didn’t even know existed. I’d say to anybody, do yourself a favour and get Larissa to have to look at your situation, she’s marvelous!”
