Mariah*

Mariah has been a client over many years and recently we began the process of preparing for her to move out of her parents home and into supported independent living accommodation. I provided assessments and reports to NDIS and her application was approved. As Mariah’s mum looked for suitable homes, I was able to give assessments and guidance on the kind of building that could be adapted for Mariah’s needs. When the right house became available we were ready to go. The new home has a bedroom, esuite and separate living room for Mariah, the same for her housemate (a cherished friend from day-program), an accessible kitchen and dining area and rooms for support workers who are onsite at all times. Before Mariah moved in I ensured her sensory needs would be accommodated with extra noise-reduction elements and double-glazing in her rooms, and safety features fitted throughout the bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. Mariah chose the colours and curtains in her room and enjoyed helping to paint her walls (pale pink!) Mariah and her housemate love making craft and their home is full of their home-made creations. Mariah’s parents were happy to see how well Mariah transitioned to her new home and love how well the house is set up to meet her needs.

“We were worried about how Mariah would manage as her dad and I got older. Larissa was absolutely wonderful in guiding us through the process of finding the right supported accommodation for Mariah. Mariah’s move to her new home was much smoother than I imagined and we get so much joy from seeing her thrive there. We are now able to enjoy spending time with Mariah without worrying so much about her future. Thanks for all your help, Larissa.”
